Firefighters respond to fire north of Canada de Los Alamos

Santa Fe, NM, June 16, 2026
—The Pelada Fire on the Pecos-Las Vegas Ranger District was detected the evening of Tuesday, June 16, 2026. The fire is located six miles southeast of Santa Fe on Forest Road 79, and three miles north of Canada Los Alamos. The fire is currently four to five acres creeping through fuels producing 2-4 ft. flame lengths. Four fire engines as well as one helicopter with crew engaged the fire. Crews will continue to work through the evening to contain the fire.

Smoke may be visible from the Santa Fe foothills, Canada de Los Alamos, and I-25 near Arroyo Hondo. This is an emerging incident and updates will be made as significant changes occur.
