Ox Fire in Manzano Mountain Wilderness – Rivera Canyon Fire in Zuni Mountains
Albuquerque, NM – July 2, 2026 — With successful suppression operations complete, resources are transitioning to actively monitoring the fires until declared out on the Mountainair Ranger District Ox Fire and the Mt Taylor Ranger District Rivera Canyon Fire.
Mountainair Ranger District- Manzano Mountain Wilderness: Ox Fire (Final Update
Reported Date / Time: June 28, 2026 / 0956. Infrared (IR) flight detected.
Cause: Lightning Size: 1/4 acre. Containment: 100% on 6/29/2026
Location: North of Manzano Peak, southwest of Ox Spring in the Manzano Mountain Wilderness within the Mountainair Ranger District of the Cibola National Forest.
Fuels: Heavy dead & down timber within tussock moth mortality area.
Operation: The fire has been contained within fuel breaks to halt fire spread. Fire resources are actively monitoring the fire until it is declared out.
Mt. Taylor Ranger District- Zuni Mountains: Rivera Canyon Fire (Final Update)
Reported Date / Time: June 27, 2026 / 1757
Cause: Lightning. Size: 4 acres. Controlled: on 7/1/2026
Location: Rivera Canyon in southeast Zuni Mountains, west of FSR 50 and north of NM 53 on the Mt. Taylor Ranger District of the Cibola National Forest.
Fuels: Ponderosa pine and oak.
Operation: The fire has been controlled with the perimeter fully secured and no longer expected to spread. Fire resources are actively monitoring the fire until it is declared out.
This will be the final update on the Ox and Rivera Canyon fires unless conditions or the situation warrants additional information.
