Frijoles Fire evacuation update: Borrego Mesa moves to SET status

SANTA FE, N.M., Aug. 18, 2026— Due to increased activity on the Frijoles Fire, the Borrego Mesa area, specifically the area on and around Forest Road 440 and Forest Road 306, east of Rio Chiquito, is now in SET status, which means be ready to leave. There is no evacuation order at this time for this area. A notification went out through the County’s emergency alert system, Alert Santa Fe, at 12:53 p.m. today.

This is an uninhabited area with forest closures in effect, and visitors should avoid the area.

Nambé Pueblo Lake and Falls Recreation Area remains in READY status, which means to be prepared for possible evacuations.

Camino de Cañon in Cundiyó remains in GO status, which means to evacuate immediately. The remainder of Cundiyó and Cerro Piñon remain in SET status, which means be ready to leave.

Residents should be prepared in case conditions change. Gather essential items; make a plan to leave if evacuation orders are issued.
