Operational Update: The Frijoles Fire remained active in the Pecos Wilderness, where vegetation and rugged terrain contributed to continued growth and smoke visible from nearby communities. Weather continues to influence fire behavior and today cloud cover over the fire reduced activity compared to previous days.

Firefighters made good progress constructing fireline and extinguishing hot spots along the western flank, supported by successful retardant drops that helped slow the fire’s spread. On the eastern side, crews are evaluating opportunities to safely place firefighters, while Hotshot crews to the south will work to gain access and engage directly along the fire’s edge. This evening, crews will continue strengthening contingency lines and remain ready to implement plans to protect surrounding communities if needed.

As part of the multilayered strategy, specialists are also developing suppression repair plans to address impacts from firefighting operations and reduce the potential for further damage. These plans will be coordinated with a focus on life safety and protecting property, water quality, and important natural and cultural resources after the fire is contained.

We sincerely appreciate the community’s generosity and desire to support firefighters. As a federal incident management team, we are fully supported and unable to accept donations. Please visit our social media pages for information about local organizations and locations that can accept donations.
