Yesterday: Wetting rains fell over much of the fire area yesterday resulting in mostly smoldering and creeping fire behavior. Crews reported little new fire growth. The fire is currently 10,939 acres based on more accurate mapping.
Today: Crews will continue to actively monitor the fire as weather safely allows. Fire managers anticipate little new fire growth during the day with continued sporadic rain showers and thunderstorms over much of the fire area.
“Fire behavior has allowed us time to make good decisions and meet the Park’s goals,” said Alan Sinclair, Incident Commander. “I am very happy that we were able to take advantage of the weather conditions over the last two days to introduce fire into areas of the Park that have not seen fire for over 100 years.”
Closures: Dog Canyon, Devil’s Hall Trail, Frijole Trail, Foothill Trail and all backcountry areas of the Park will remain CLOSED until further notice. Park areas remaining open are Guadalupe Peak Trail, El Capitan, and Smith Spring Trail.
