WESTHALL 2 FIRE-The Pecos Zone Type 3 Team was ordered to Arabela, NM, located on the east end of the Capitan Mountains. The lightening started, Westhall 2 fire was at 1500 acres and is located South and East of Arabela. The fire area is high desert with shrubs, grass and cactus.
The current size is at 3339 acres with moderate backing, creeping and flanking. Isolated thunderstorms are creating erratic winds and lightning.
The crews are monitoring lines and beginning mop-up. With the success of suppression efforts, Incident Commander, Tom Barta is predicting a Wednesday transition to a Type IV I.C.
Resources have responded from NM State Forestry, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs and Lincoln County Emergency Services. Air support has been provided from Alamogordo.
There have not been any evacuations in area. Some damage has been reported to stock tanks and water lines.
