Summary: The Spurgeon Fire, is burning on National Forest System lands, on Glenwood Ranger District in Catron County, NM. It is on both sides of US Hwy 180, mile post 39, north of Alma, NM. There may be delays in traffic on both north and south bound US Hwy 180.
Air reconnaissance confirmed multiple starts. The fire is burning in brush and grasses on both sides of US Hwy 180. Engines are responding with full suppression strategy.
Smoke from fire rises up and away during the daytime, but in the evening smoke can pool back down in canyons, drainages, and basins.
