FINAL UPDATE for Baylor Canyon Fire, now 90% Contained – 3/5/19 7:00 PM

Location:  Approximately 2 miles south of Organ, NM

Firefighting Resources:  The Baylor Canyon Fire is now 90% contained.  Most of the firefighting resources were released from the fire today, including the helicopter and crew members.  Six firefighters and two engines remain assigned to the fire to monitor and patrol the area over the next few days.    

Values at Risk:  None

Size:  50 acres

Containment:  90%

Cause: Human-caused, investigation is ongoing

Status: The fire was burning  in very steep, rugged terrain, primarily burning in grass and brush at an elevation of 6,600 ft.  There are no signs of active fire behavior.

Closure: All road and trail closures associated with the Baylor Canyon Fire have been LIFTED.   

Roadway travelers are reminded that there may still fire traffic in the area over during the next few days!  Please drive safely and mitigate potential hazards by slowing down and having a heightened awareness of possible encounters with fire traffic.
