Paterson Fire Evening Update – San Miguel County – April 24, 2021

The Peterson Fire burning northwest of Las Vegas off Highway 65 near the Peterson Reservoir in San Miguel County, is now 50% contained. The fire remains estimated at 30 acres, and structures are no longer threatened. Firefighters will continue to secure containment lines and mop-up spot fires this evening in preparation for high winds Sunday and Monday. Approximately 45 personnel are working to suppress this fire. The cause remains under investigation.

Smoke may continue to impact the surrounding area. Individuals sensitive to wildfire smoke should take precautions and use the New Mexico Department of Health 5-3-1 Visibility Method to determine if it’s safe to be outside. Learn more at https://nmtracking.org/environment/air/FireAndSmoke.html.
