Lincoln National Forest – Game Tank Fire FINAL Update, 6/14/16, 12:15 P.M.

The Game Tank Fire is 100% contained.  Size remains 7 acres.  All firelines are secure.  Some fuels within the interior of the fire continue to burn at a low intensity reducing buildup of crowded vegetation.  A few resources remain on scene to monitor and mop up.

Approximately 8 fire personnel continued to suppress the Game Tank Fire.  Fire behavior was described as “creeping” and is holding in place.  Firefighters extinguished hotspots within the interior of the fire.  The area has rough, rugged terrain making access difficult.  Resources will be on scene tomorrow.  Size remains 7 acres.

 

Lincoln National Forest, Guadalupe Ranger District – Game Tank Fire Update, 6/13/16, 9:30 A.M.

Yesterday firefighters were able to build line around part of the fire’s edge to stop the fire’s progression and achieve approximately 50% containment.  There was no fire growth overnight and some interior smoke observed.  Local resources will be on scene today to continue containment efforts and secure existing fireline.  Full containment is expected over the next few days.  Previous orders for additional resources have been cancelled due to decreased fire activity.

 

Lincoln National Forest, Guadalupe Ranger District – Game Tank Fire Update, 6/12/16, 7:00 P.M.

Two engines, 4 fire personnel, and a helicopter making buckets drops were able to stop forward progress on the Game Tank Fire despite rugged terrain and difficult access. Current size is 7 acres.  Firefighters will continue suppression activities tomorrow.  Another fire update will be provided the morning of June 13.

Location: Approximately 8 miles south of Queen, NM and 1 mile east of the Dark Canyon Lookout Tower

Legal Description: T26S, R22E, Sec 5

Firefighting Resources: US Forest Service firefighters are on scene and will be suppressing this fire.  Additional resources have been ordered.  Approximately 8 personnel are currently assigned.

Values at Risk: a game tank (water for wildlife)

Size: 3 acres

Containment: 0%

Cause: Lightning

Status: The fire is primarily burning in brush and through an old fire scar.  Fire behavior is described as “creeping” with moderate spread potential.
