Lincoln National Forest – Sacramento Ranger District: Prescribed Burn Near Bluewater Ranch

Two firefighters support work on the prescribed burn on the Lincoln National Forest

The Lincoln National Forest, Sacramento Ranger District is proceeding with a prescribed burn approximately two miles west of Bluewater Ranch passed Seep Canyon.

Multiple piles will be treated with hand ignitions today. Crews hope to claim 150 acres. Work began around 10:00 a.m. this morning.  Weather conditions are optimal with mild winds and cooler temperatures.

Smoke may impact various roads in the area and may be visible from the communities of Weed, Mayhill, Sacramento and Cloudcroft, NM. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through the area.

Prescribed fire is always managed with firefighter and public safety as the first priority and is one of the most effective tools available to resource managers. Prescribed fires mimic natural fires by reducing forest fuels, recycling nutrients and increasing habitat diversity. They are designed to meet specific objectives, including providing community protection and promoting forest health.
