Lincoln National Forest -Sacramento Ranger District- Lewis Prescribed Burn

The Sacramento Ranger District on the Lincoln National Forests will conduct a prescribed burn as part of the Lewis Prescribed Burn Project tomorrow as weather conditions allow.

The Lewis Prescribed Burn Project Areas totals 3000 acres. Crews have completed about 1/3 of the project to date.

Crews plan to burn in Lewis Canyon tomorrow.  Smoke may be visible from Weed, Mayhill, Sacramento and Cloudcroft, NM.

Prescribed burning provides many benefits and is essential to maintaining healthy forest ecosystems. It provides habitat diversity, recycles plant nutrients into the soil and encourages new growth for a variety of plants used by wildlife and livestock. Prescribed burning of forest ground fuels also reduces the threat of large scale wildfires.
