Incident Name – Rawhide Fire

Jurisdiction: Lincoln National Forest, Guadalupe Ranger District

Size:  4 Acres

Cause: Lightning

Date/Time Detected: Aug 9, 2019, 11:20 am

Location: 5 miles NW of Sitting Bull Falls near Rawhide Canyon.

Firefighting Resources: 1 Engine and additional fire personnel.

Fire Update: The Rawhide Fire started August 9, 2019, on the Guadalupe Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest. The lightning-caused fire is burning in Rawhide Canyon five miles northwest of Sitting Bull Falls.

Winds from the southeast have slowly spread the fire to four acres. Currently one engine and additional fire personnel are on scene. Crews plan to conduct burnout operations tomorrow after more resources arrive and if conditions permit.

Smoke may be visible from Carlsbad, Queen and nearby communities.

More information will be released tomorrow mid morning.
