Scout Fire – FINAL UPDATE – 4/17/18 – 10:00 AM Update

SCOUT FIRE UPDATE – 4/17/18  10:00 am – The Scout Fire is now 75% contained at 16 acres.  The change in the number of acres (from what was originally reported) is due to more accurate mapping. Firefighters will continue to work towards full containment and will also patrol the area over the next few days.  The fire affected State/Private lands and did not affect any neighboring land jurisdictions.

THIS IS THE FINAL UPDATE FOR THE SCOUT FIRE, UNLESS THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE TO REPORT!

SCOUT FIRE UPDATE – 4/16/18  8:15 pm – Firefighters continue to make progress on the Scout Fire, which turned out to be entirely on State/Private lands.  They were successful in holding the fire size at 40 acres and are still reinforcing containment lines and focusing their efforts on interior pockets of fuel.  Some resources have been released from the fire.  The firefighters that remain assigned will continue to work towards full containment of the Scout Fire.

SCOUT FIRE UPDATE – 4/16/18  3:21 pm

New Fire Start – Scout Fire

Jurisdiction: Lincoln National Forest/State and Private lands

Date/Time Detected: 04/16/18  12:58 pm

Location:  North side of Capitan Mountains, off of Highway 246.  About 22 miles northeast of Capitan and 7 miles northwest of Arabela.

Lat/Long: 33 deg, 39 min, 6.98 sec X 105 deg, 11 min, 58.2 sec

Legal Description: T7S, R18E, SWS Sec 31

Firefighting Resources: Lincoln County, Forest Service, BLM, contract resources and private land owner on scene, approx. 40 personnel, plus engines and equipment.  An air attack (airplane) is flying over the fire to assess and recon the area and provide information to the ground resources.

Values at Risk: 1 home

Hazards:  Highway traffic

Fuels: Grass and brush

Size: 40 acres

Containment: No estimate of containment at this time.

Cause: Unknown

Status: Firefighters are using existing roads to confine the fire – the private land owner also used his blade (equipment) to clear vegetation from areas where there were no existing roads.  The fire has a preliminary “scratch line” around it and firefighters will work on improving that line to minimize any potential spreading.  Current wind speeds are 5 -10 mph, which will contribute favorably to the firefighters’ efforts to hold the line and keep the fire from growing.
